Gail Cunningham is a Fibers artist from Philadelphia. She began her studies at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, finished her BFA at Oregon College of Art & Craft in Portland, Oregon in 2003 and shortly after moved back to Philadelphia. She sees Fibers as a way to study materials and as a result she has worked in a number of different media including fabric, photography, letterpress, clay, stained glass, and paper. This allows her to give a different context to similar concepts and to explore how various materials effect how a piece and a particular idea is understood. Cunningham has been working in paper since 2008 and has shown in this format at Bambi Gallery (2008, 2009 & 2011), High Wire Gallery (2008), Philadelphia Invitational Furniture Show (2010), Hudson Beach Glass (2010), and Philadelphia International Airport (2011). In 2010 she was an Artist in Residence at Cow House Studios in Ireland for 10 weeks.
